Our verdict

The Momentum X410 is the plain P-4 answer: bank letters and payslips go in ten sheets at a time and come out as 4 x 28 mm pieces. The catch is its run time. Rexel lists 6 minutes of running followed by 60 minutes of cooling, so it is built for little-and-often shredding, not for clearing a loft of paperwork in one evening. Skip it if you want to shred cards, which are not on its shreds list. The variant trap: the X410 SL is a slimline version and the X415 and X420 take more sheets, so check the article number 2104571. The Amazon listing's contents line mentions the X308, an apparent listing error, so confirm what arrives.

Living with it

Rexel quotes 62 dBA and dimensions of 356 x 423 x 238 mm, so it fits beside a desk. Feed fewer than ten sheets when paper is folded or thick, and use oil sheets as Rexel's manuals recommend.
