Our verdict
The M510 is the step up if you want P-5 micro cut without giving up capacity: it still takes ten sheets per pass, but the pieces are 2 x 15 mm. The surprise is the duty cycle. Rexel's manual gives 120 minutes on and 60 minutes off, which is far longer than the 6-minute run of its P-4 sibling, so it suits a big clear-out. Skip it if you want to shred credit cards, which the manual lists among the things it cannot take. The variant trap: the M515 takes more sheets and the X415 shares the same manual but is cross cut, so check the article number 2104575.
Size and maintenance
Rexel lists 370 x 465 x 279 mm and 12.5 kg, so it is a floor-standing machine rather than a desk-top one. The manual recommends oil sheets to keep the cutters running smoothly, and it goes into sleep mode after a short idle period.
FAQ
Why is the run time so much longer than the X410?
Rexel does not explain the difference on its pages. The figures are what Rexel publishes: 120/60 minutes for the M510 and 6/60 for the X410.
Can it shred staples?
Yes, small staples and paper clips near the corner, according to the manual. Heavy-duty staples, bulldog clips and bound documents are not accepted.
How we researched this
