Our verdict

The Arete One 10L is a sensible compressor dehumidifier for a heated UK flat. Its strength is honesty on paper: Meaco publishes extraction at six combinations of temperature and humidity, so you can see that the "10L" in the name is a 30°C, 80% figure and that at 20°C and 60% it removes 4.34 litres a day. Power is low (151 W on the listing), the tank is 2.5 L, and it adds laundry and night modes, a humidistat and an H13 HEPA filter, with a 5-year warranty. Skip it for a cold room: at 10°C Meaco lists 1.41 litres a day, and its operating range starts at 5°C. The variant trap: Meaco sells the Arete One in several capacities and an app-enabled Arete Two, so check the listing says One 10L.

Running it well

Close the room's windows and door while it runs, keep it clear of walls and curtains as Electrical Safety First advises, and empty the tank before moving it. For drying washing, use laundry mode in a small closed room. Check the manual before leaving it on overnight or unattended.
