Our verdict
The DD1 Classic is the cold-room choice. As a desiccant dehumidifier it does not rely on a cold coil, so EcoAir says it keeps extracting at temperatures as low as 1°C; the listing gives 7.5 litres a day at 20°C and 60% humidity and an operating range of 1 to 40°C. It is light at about 6 kg, has a laundry mode, a quiet mode, a 2, 4 or 8-hour timer and a drainage hose in the box. The trade-off is power: 300 W on the listing, about twice a small compressor model, so in a heated room it costs more to remove the same water. The variant trap: Amazon.co.uk lists it as the MK6; older stock and reviews refer to the MK5 or the DD122 Classic, and EcoAir also sells the DD1 Simple, DD1 Mini and DD2, which are different machines.
Using it safely
Electrical Safety First advises a UK 3-pin plug, letting air flow freely around the unit, emptying the tank after use and before moving it, and not running a dehumidifier overnight or while you are out unless the maker says it is safe unattended. The timer helps you stop it at a set time.
FAQ
Does a desiccant dehumidifier warm the room?
Desiccant models use a heater to dry their moisture-absorbing material, so check the manual for how much warm air this model releases. EcoAir's listing does not give a figure.
