Our verdict

The Little Green 1400B is the right size for spot cleaning that really is spot cleaning: a pet accident, a spill on a cushion, a car seat. Its 48 oz clean tank and 3-inch tool are built for that, and Consumer Reports found that standard and ProHeat Little Green machines "worked pretty well" against store-bought sprays. Skip it if you regularly clean big rug patches or flights of stairs, where its tank and narrow tool mean more refills and passes. The variant trap: Amazon sells many Little Green versions (Pet Deluxe 3353, Mini 4075, ProHeat), with different tanks and tools. Make sure the title ends in 1400B if you want the model described here, and note that the 1400B does not heat water.

Use and care

Blot liquid first, test a hidden area for colorfastness, then spray, scrub and suction, working from the edges inward as the Carpet and Rug Institute advises. After each session, use the HydroRinse tool to flush the hose so residue does not dry inside. Empty and rinse the dirty tank before storing. Bissell recommends its own formulas; the trial bottle runs out quickly, so plan on a full-size bottle.
