Our verdict

The Shine 300 is the one to pick if the length of the sunrise matters to you. Lumie's manual lets you set it anywhere from 15 to 90 minutes, and the bedtime sunset has the same range, ending either in darkness or at a dim nightlight. Add 15 built-in sounds (white noise, waves, birdsong and more) and FM radio with 5 presets, and it covers most bedside routines. Skip it if you want a stated brightness in lux, because Lumie's manual does not give one, or if you want extras such as a reading lamp or phone charging. The variant trap is the name: Shine 200 and Bodyclock Luxe are different lamps with different features, so check the listing says Shine 300. The listing also makes a health claim about winter blues; treat it as the seller's claim, not as advice.

Setting it up for winter mornings

Lumie ships it with a 30-minute sunrise and 30-minute sunset. Try the default for a week before stretching it to 45 or 60 minutes; a longer sunrise only helps if the lamp faces you. Use the weekly alarm schedule if you want a different time at weekends, and pick light only if you share the room and the other person does not want sound.

FAQ

Does the Shine 300 have a battery?

No. It runs from the supplied mains adaptor and keeps the time for about 30 minutes without power, according to Lumie.

Can it play sounds at bedtime?

Yes. The sunset can play one of the 15 sounds or the FM radio, and the volume can fade with the light.
