Our verdict
The Connetix Rainbow Starter Pack gives more building per box than most starter sets: 60 pieces including six large squares, plus windows and doors that make houses easy to recognise. Connetix states its standard tiles are ultrasonically welded and secured with metal rivets, and its FAQ lists EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3 testing for Europe. It recommends the tiles for ages 3 and up and advises supervising younger children. The trade-off is mixing: Connetix says its stronger magnets mean joins to other brands may feel weaker.

Care and safety
Connetix advises wiping tiles with a damp cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals and never submerging them, as moisture can damage the magnets. Throw away any tile that cracks or rattles.
