Our verdict
This Aerolite backpack is the simplest answer to Ryanair's 40 x 30 x 20 cm rule: the listing says it is designed to measure exactly that size, and because easyJet's free bag can be up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm, it fits easyJet's allowance too. It is soft, so it squeezes under a seat, and it has packing straps, a front pocket and zip loops for a padlock.
The trade-off of building to the maximum is that there is no margin. If you overfill the front pocket, a soft bag bulges past 20 cm deep. The listing does not give a capacity in litres or a weight, and it does not describe a laptop sleeve. The variant trap: Aerolite sells several similar 40 x 30 x 20 cm backpacks, some with a USB port or detachable pouch, and older bags at the previous 40 x 20 x 25 cm size. This link is the plain black under-seat backpack.
Packing to fit
Pack heavier, flatter things against the back panel and keep the front pocket slim. Measure the bag once packed, at its deepest point.
FAQ
Will it fit easyJet's free bag allowance?
Yes, on size. easyJet allows 45 x 36 x 20 cm including handles and wheels.
Is it big enough for a weekend?
That depends on how you pack; the box size is 24 litres at most, and the listing does not quote a capacity.
